I love our local history section. Thanks to this community — and especially our former local historian, Nancy Watts — we have an amazing collection of records, including photos, interviews, newspapers, yearbooks, and rare local history books. They’re fascinating to browse through. You can find them here at the Library or online at mtmemory.org.
As long as I’m talking about the Montana Memory Project, I should remind you about their 2nd Annual Photo Prompt Writing Contest. Don’t forget to turn in your short story submissions by March 11th.
I’m not a writer myself, but I love looking through the photos on the Montana Memory Project. I’ve found a couple of oddballs that I just had to share. So that all of us here at the Library can get your thoughts on them, too, we’ve created our first Library “Caption This!” Challenge.
Here are two photos for you to caption. I’ve also included their official titles and descriptions from the Montana Memory Project. To submit your captions, please send me an email at lpldirector@lewistownlibrary.org, drop by the Library, or send a letter to 701 West Main Street, Lewistown, MT 59457. Include the photo number, your caption, and your name and contact information. Your friendly librarians will vote on winners for each photo. We’ll announce results in the March 30th edition of the paper. If you win, you’ll get your name and caption in the paper, bragging rights, and three free books.
Finally, if you’d like to learn more about the Library and our local history collection, feel free to stop by anytime. The Central Montana Genealogy Society is another fantastic resource for learning more about your family roots in this area. For more information, give us a call at 406-538-5212. I can’t wait to see what you come up with.
