Borrow the Internet! by Library Director Dani Buehler

Big things are happening at the Library! We are excited to be offering a new service to our community, a spectacularly timed service, a necessary service, an awesome service. Through a generous grant made available by the Montana State Library we now have internet hotspots available for checkout. You might be asking yourself, “What is this internet hotspot you speak of?” Well, an internet hotspot is a small device, think hockey puck, that you can checkout at your local library for a period of 2 weeks. This device can be used to attached digital devices (aka tablets, phones, computers, etc) to a FREE internet signal. Basically, if you can easily make a cell phone call (using the Verizon network) you can have internet access for up to 5 devices. Magic, right?

Well, that is what we do here at libraries. We create space for the magical, the informative, and the indispensable. These devices are available for individual patrons but could also be used by companies or organizations. Think of how important internet connection is right now. The internet is a vital component for telemedicine visits, for employees to be able to telework effectively, for students to be able to complete assignments virtually, and for individuals to be able to stay informed on current events. We love collaboration at the Library and want to hear how you or your organization could use these free devices. If you are intrigued, feel free to stop by the library or give us a call and we can help you connect to the information around you.

This project is funded in part with Library Services and Technology Act funding from the Institute of Museum and Library Services, administered by the Montana State Library.
