The nights are growing longer and the lights of Christmas have begun their enchanted dance across town. This time of year harkens to the magic that grows within each of us and fosters the spirit of giving. Therefore, to embrace this spirit of giving I have chosen a book near and dear to my heart.
The first year I worked here at the Lewistown Public Library I came across, what was then a newly published book by Tea Obreht, “The Tiger’s Wife”. This small and unassuming book packs a powerful punch. Obreht’s debut and multi-layered novel explores the superstitions and myths grown from a remote and unnamed Balkan country. Harkening to such greats as Gabriel Garcia Marquez and Kafka, Obreht uses magical realism to delight her readers with a formidable little story. Doesn’t this sound like the perfect little holiday read.
