The Lewistown Public Library is excited to announce our 2022 Summer Reading Program, “Oceans of Possibilities”, beginning Tuesday, May 31 and running through Saturday, July 9. Summer Reading is a long-standing staple of summer at the Library and we can’t wait to bring you another year of exciting, entertaining, and educational programming for all ages.
The theme of this year’s program centers on water — oceans, rivers, lakes, pirates, aquatic animals, the science of water, and more. For the six weeks of Summer Reading, the Library will offer age-specific programming each day of the week. Tuesdays at 1PM will be for our Middles (ages 6-12) and will include seashell identification, a presentation from a Montana Fish Wildlife and Parks fish biologist, pirate Olympics, and more. Teen programming (ages 13+) will be Wednesdays at 3PM and include a storytelling presentation by Mary Jane Bradbury, teen book club, and craft projects such as tie-dye. Adults can attend weekly Hometown Humanities presentations every Thursday at 6PM — stay tuned for Alissa’s blog next week for more information about the adult Summer Reading Program. Ocean-themed Books & Babies for our Littles (ages 0-5) will continue Fridays at 10:30AM. Activities for the whole family will be provided every Saturday at 11AM.
In addition to weekly programming, we have several special events as part of Summer Reading. The Friends of the Library is sponsoring a free matinee of “Surf’s Up” at the Judith Theater on Saturday, June 4 at 11AM. Our StoryWalk will be available from 8AM-5PM on June 21-25 along the City Trails at the Frog Ponds. On Saturday, July 9, the Library is sponsoring free admission at the City Pool at Frank Day Park to celebrate the last day of Summer Reading. All programs and events are free of cost.
Registration for the Summer Reading Program begins on May 31, and you can sign up anytime throughout the program. For youth, upon signing up, you’ll receive a folder containing an events calendar, reading log, and activity sheets, as well as a necklace to collect ocean charms. For each program, activity, or completion or your reading log, you’ll receive an ocean charm. Once you’ve collected six charms, you’ll be put in a drawing to receive grand prizes from local businesses.
