I am excited to announce that Teen Writers Group, our creative writing program for junior high and high school students, returns to the Library on Thursday, November 4th. This group will meet weekly on Thursdays at 3:30PM in the youth area of the Library, excluding closures for holidays.

Teen Writers is all about self-expression. My goal as the facilitator of this program is to provide a space for teens to find their voice, stretch their imagination, and utilize their creativity through writing. This can take the form of stories, poems, songs, or writing about events in their life — whatever interests and engage them. In doing so, participants will build skills in observation, story-telling, and providing and receiving constructive feedback from their peers. This isn’t homework and work is not graded or judged. There is no right or wrong way to write, and participants will be encouraged to shed their inner critic and embrace the opportunity to express themselves and write freely.

Meetings will last approximately an hour and will consist of free-writing exercises, low-pressure workshopping, and activities and games that will get writers thinking outside the box.  There are no sign-ups required and it is not necessary to attend all meetings. This time will be open for whenever participants can come and is open to all, whether you are a dedicated, consistent writer or just have a curiosity about creative writing. I encourage you to bring your creativity and enthusiasm and try it out.
