LPL Brings You Our 2021 Summer Reading Program, Tails & Tales by Brittney Uecker

The Library is delighted to bring you our 2021 Summer Reading Program, Tails and Tales. This year’s program will be about animals and the stories we tell about them. From the farm to the jungle, the ocean to the forest, we will be learning about animals of all kinds through special youth programs and highlighting exciting books in our collection. Summer Reading begins on Tuesday, June 1 and will run for six weeks through Saturday, July 10.

This year, we will be hosting programming for each age group on specific days of the week. Tuesdays at 1 pm will be STEM programming for Middles (ages 6-12), where we will learn about animal habitats, food-chains, tracks, and other wild topics through a science and art lens. For Teen Time (ages 13 and up) on Thursdays at 4 pm, we will make tote bags and marbled mugs as well as dive into some creative writing. On Thursday, July 1, Teen Book Club makes its return with “Turtles All the Way Down” by John Green. Copies can be picked up when you sign up for Summer Reading and we will meet to discuss the book on July 1 at 4 pm. For the Littles, we will continue Books & Babies (ages 0-2 and caregivers) on Fridays at 10:30 am and PreK/Kinder Storytime (ages 3-6) on Saturdays at 11 am. These storytimes will be specifically focused on animal books, songs, and crafts.

In addition to weekly programs, there are other fun events and on-going activities we have in the works. We will be holding a bird-watching event on Friday, June 11 in conjunction with the Lewistown Birding Bunch. Meet at Brewery Flats at 1 pm dressed for the weather and ready to observe central Montana bird species in their natural habitat. Our Traveling Library Piranha will be out and about the week of June 8-12. Clues will be posted each day to help you track him down at different spots in town. Our Storywalk will be posted on the Courthouse lawn the week of June 21-26. Take a stroll and read a story with the whole family. Throughout the program, go on a scavenger hunt in the library for the Summer Reading Angler Fish hiding in a new spot in the stacks each week. Finally, track your reading progress on your Summer Reading log throughout the program. Once you have met your reading goal, bring in your completed log to receive a book prize.

We are so excited to bring you Tails and Tales. All programs are in-person — we ask that unvaccinated patrons please wear a mask in the building. Signups begin on Tuesday, June 1 and the program runs through Saturday, July 10. If you have any questions about the Summer Reading Program, contact the Library at 538-5212.
