Library Walking Book Club Walks Again by Kari Denison

The Lewistown Public Library is pleased to announce the Walking Book Club is back!  The Walking Book Club had wonderful participation during the Summer Reading Program.  This positive response gave merit to continue with the Fall Walking Book Club.

What is a walking book club?  A walking book club is a book club that discusses selected book while on a walk. Essentially, the library is taking the book club idea to another level and incorporating physical activity to the mix.

“Blind Your Ponies” by Stanley Gordon West is the selected book for the Fall Walking Book Club.

The chosen book takes place in a quaint, beautiful Montana town – Willow Creek.  Lead character Sam Pickett is challenged to embrace life in a community – seen by some as a dying town – while coaching a basketball team with a long history of losing.

Here is some praise West has received for the novel:

“West’s first novel is powerful and moving . . . a celebration of the human spirit . . . a heart-stopper, a strong, unblinking deeply human tale.” – Publishers Weekly.

“This very good first novel… is an off-beat tale that features good characterization… solid background detail, and a strong sense of the value of human life.  Highly recommended.” -Library Journal.

The Library will have “Blind Your Ponies” books available for checkout beginning Tuesday, September 10.  Participants will have one month to read the novel.  On Tuesday, October 8, the Walking Book Club will gather in the Library upstairs meeting room before setting out on the Lewistown Trail system to walk and discuss the book.

The Walking Book Club is open to all adult patrons who are interested to join.  One highly suggested quality for joining is the ability to walk at a moderate pace on a gravel surface.  Participants need to be prepared to walk outdoors and discuss the novel for approximately an hour.

Already read “Blind Your Ponies”?  It’s okay – you still have the option to participate in the discussion by simply dropping in for the walking/discussion experience.

The Walking Book Club is a free library service for our adult patrons.  Get your walking shoes on for the Walking Book Club discussion on Tuesday, October 8 at noon.  For more information contact Kari at 538-5212 or visit www.lewistownlibrary.org.
