Summer Reading Program WEEK 2 – Tuesday, June 11 – Saturday, June 15

Week 2 of the Summer Reading Program’s theme is “Blast off!”.  Check out the programs available at your Library this summer.  Several programs are re-occurring, and their descriptions are below.  Each week unique programs and presentations will also be available. 

Summer Reading is for youth and adults.  Sign up anytime during the six-week program.  Summer Reading is a fine way to get involved with your community and engage lifelong learning. Contact the Library at 538-5212 for more information.

Walking Book Club

Adults participate by reading a set number of chapters each week and discuss while strolling with the group on the walking trail.  The 30-minute walk will be moderate in activity

Tuesday, June 11 at 12 p.m.:  Adult participants meet in the upstairs meeting room with book and walking shoes on.  Be ready to chat about chapters 1-5 of “Bring Jade Home” by Michelle Caffrey.

NASA @ My Library 

Middles (ages 6-12) participate in various STEAM (Science Technology Engineering Art Math) activities centered around space concepts. Meet in the Youth Area.  Program runs approximately one hour.   

Tuesday, June 11 at 1 p.m.:  NASA @ My Library for Middles focus on Rocket Launchers – discuss how rockets work and the physics of their flight. Participants will design and build rockets, blast them off outside, and test how different aspects of rocket design effect how high and how far they fly.

Wednesday Writers

Wednesday Writers Story Elements Series: Wednesdays at 4 p.m. Teens (ages 13 – 18) will participate in a six-week series on the elements of stories and the process of writing longer stories. Participants will work on the same story for the duration of the series, focusing each week on a different element of building their stories.

Wednesday, June 12 at 4 p.m. Wednesday Writers for Teens will focus on setting and discuss how to build a context of place and time for their stories to take place in.

Spaced Out Color Meditation

Come to the library for an evening of coloring meditation with calm music and snacks on Thursday, June 13 at 6:00 p.m.  Space themed coloring books and basic color pencils will be provided.  This is an adult program. 

Storytime

Storytime: Fridays at 10:30 a.m. Littles (ages 0-5) will enjoy songs and stories. 

Friday, June 14 at 10:30 a.m. the 3-5 year olds will enjoy “Tiny Little Rocket” by Richard Collingridge and craft rocket straws.

Teen Coloring Night

Teen participants meet on Friday, June 14 at 4:00 p.m. in the upstairs meeting room for space themed coloring fun.  Coloring books, drawing supplies and snacks will be provided.

Drop-In Craft

Drop-In Craft: Saturdays from 10 a.m.- 2 p.m.  Littles (ages 0-5) are provided craft supplies and directions on the back tables in the Youth Area for families of the Littles to stop by as they wish to craft.

Saturday, June 15 Littles craft is rocket straws in the Youth Area from 10 a.m.- 2 p.m.  Children must be accompanied by an adult or caretaker.
