Hello, LPL patrons!
My name is Brittney and I am the new face of the Youth Area at the Lewistown Public Library! I came here from Missoula where I did my BA and MA in Forensic and Biological Anthropology and worked in wildlife genetics before heeding my library calling. My husband grew up in Lewistown and we have been looking to move for several years, so when the opportunity to come on board at the library became available, I gladly jumped aboard!
I have been an avid and lifelong reader and writer. I grew up in Billings, where my family spent many evenings and weekends at the public library, a place where we could all find something that intrigued and entertained us. I have fond and vivid memories of participating in the Summer Reading Program and writing contests through the library as a child, and I am delighted to now be on the other side as the facilitator of these programs. Librarianship is a new and refreshing experience for me, but the passion and interest is inherent, and being able to share and foster that love in others is a dream come true!
We have lots of exciting things on tap for the Youth Area. Our Summer Reading Program will begin in June and I am already working hard to plan lots of fun programming ideas and exciting activities to go with our theme, “A Universe of Stories”. Starting April 10th, our Wednesday Writers group will begin twice-monthly meetings in the Youth Area at 4 pm. This creative writing program will offer a chance for budding youth writers to share their work with each other, hone their writing skills with thought-provoking games and prompts, and, most importantly, there will be snacks! I will continue to lead Storytime for the littles on Fridays at 10:30 am in the upstairs meeting room, where we will sing, read stories, and create crafts centered around themes such as Earth Day, pizza, superheroes, and all things space to coincide with the Summer Reading Program. Creating new and exciting programs for our youth patrons is one of the parts of this job that I have been most eager about, and I can’t wait to bring these ideas to life! If there is a program that you would like to see our library offer, please let me know – you’ll find me in the Youth Area.
I am so excited to be a part of this wonderful community and am so grateful for the incredible welcome my family has received. I can’t wait to meet more of you and bring the joy of reading into your worlds!
