Lewistown Public Library Rocks!  By Kari Denison

This year’s Summer Reading Program – Libraries Rock! – was a rockin’ good time with spectacular participation.  Three hundred Library patrons signed up to participate in Libraries Rock!.  These patrons had a variety of tasks to choose from and accomplish during the 6-week program to have the chance to enter into a weekly prize drawing.

Tasks for the adult program ranged from attending programs, reading, competing in the Rock Contest, show and tell, book discussion, saying nice things about people for one week, and participating and contributing to our community in a variety of positive ways.  Tasks for the youth program ranged from reading, scavenger hunts, Jam Sessions, competing in the Rock Contest and attending a variety of programs.

Programs this summer were impressively attended. More than 100 people enjoyed the Thursday evening shows in June:  Songwriters In The Round, Sticks and Strings and Mark Matthews. Jam Sessions and Storytimes – which targeted the youth – engaged 359 participants.

Prizes for the Summer Reading Program weekly drawing were quite amazing.  Participating adults had the chance to win two tickets to the Charlie Russell Chew Choo, two tickets to the Cowboy Poetry Night Show – Suzy Boggus, two tickets to the Rodeo at Central MT Fair, two tickets to the Fair Night Show – Easton Corbin, and a miniature rock garden and $50 gift certificate to Krings Greenhouse.

Youth prizes ranged from a bowling night, tickets to the movie theatre, a disco ball, boom wackers, fair passes and ride tickets, and passes to the city pool.  Little kids also received a treat coupon for attending programming.

The Library staff and Board of Trustees would like to thank all participants, volunteers and contributors to the success of the Summer Reading Program.  Special thanks to Dave Rummans, Charlie Denison, Sean Devine, Rachel Schwaller, Debbie Shobe and Shawna Crawford for sharing their time and talents. Many thanks to Snowy Mountain Lanes, Cowboy Poetry, Krings Greenhouse, Lewistown City Pool, Lewistown McDonalds and the Friends of the Lewistown Public Library for donating prizes for the weekly drawings.  Thank you to all who participated in the Chili Bowl, as the funds raised at January’s event helped fund the Summer Reading Program.

Happy summer reading, folks!
