There’s No Place Like Home By Kari Denison

Dorothy is famous for clicking her ruby red heels while avowing, “there’s no place like home” to return to her family in the timeless classic, “The Wizard of Oz.”  Her epic adventure in the vividly colorful land of Oz was laden with characters unknown in Kansas. After being hunted by a wicked witch and her flying monkeys, Dorothy and her faithful dog, Toto, begin to experience a longing and greater love for their homeland.   For these reasons, “The Wizard of Oz” has been my all-time favorite movie as long as I can remember.

Being a proud Montana native, I love my home, and nothing compares.  I also love to travel and adventure to new destinations.  After being away for any length of time, I always am happy to return.  The familiarity and quaintness of home is very comforting.  I fully agree with Dorothy; there is no place like home, and I have even repeated her famous line on a few occasions during my travels.

A few weeks back, the 89th Academy Awards ceremony took place. This year’s Oscars were memorable and quite historical. The youngest Director to receive an Oscar for Best Director was awarded to Damien Chazelle, 32 years old. A few others, such as Emma Stone and Casey Affleck, won Oscars for a first time.  But to top it off, the Best Picture Award was announced erroneously to the wrong winner at the end of the show.  This shocking and revolting error was due to a distracted representative.  Apparently, tweeting on the job is a major distraction.

Since it is still close to Oscar time, I felt inspired to share my top ten movies of all time.  Picking my top movie (Best Picture) was easy and you’ve probably guessed it: “The Wizard of Oz”.  Choosing the following nine was a major challenge.

Kari’s Top 10 movies of all time:

1-The Wizard of Oz

2-Star Wars

3- The Lost Boys

4-The Outsiders

5- Purple Rain

6- Time Bandits

7- Labyrinth

8-Charlotte’s Web

9-Dirty Dancing

10-Willow

Yes, my top 10 all-time favorite movies that quickly came to mind are from my childhood.  I am still an avid movie watcher and moviegoer, but these films rank highest. It was fun and a bit challenging to pin them down.
